Frogs have been adorned for centuries and are very symbolic. Representing growth, transformation, fertility, new life, and good luck these vibrantly colored jewels of the rainforest are not only stunning to look at, but are fun to watch. Being diurnal, they are active during the days and with the their bright colors contrasting the naturalistic rainforest habitat they are sure to make great display animals. Over time you will see that they will each reveal their own unique personalities to you.

"But are these poison dart frogs really poisonous?"  Well, no, not entirely. In the wild a dart frogs main food source are poisonous insects like ants and mites. When in captivity these food sources are not offered as they are replaced by fruit flies and bean beetles instead. Since the posionous insects are taken out of the equation they do not produce the same strong neurotoxin (known as batrachotoxin) which affects the nerve impulses of their prey. To put it simply, in the wild yes, certain species can contain these toxins. In captivity, there is no concern as the frogs produce these toxins, although proper hand washing procedures should be practiced when handling any amphibian. One of my favorite things about frogs is that they don't bite!
